Why we moved

Majestic began life as a sovereign chain — our own validators, our own consensus, our own infrastructure end to end. There is a real argument for that approach. Sovereignty means no dependence on another network's roadmap, governance, or fee market.

It also means carrying the entire cost of security yourself. A sovereign chain is only as safe as the validator set defending it, and building a validator set large enough to be genuinely difficult to attack takes years and sustained capital. Every hour of engineering spent on block production, node operations, and chain maintenance is an hour not spent on the things people actually use.

Over time that arithmetic stopped making sense. The infrastructure aged, the operational burden grew, and the resources going into keeping a chain alive were resources not going into payments, identity, or land records — the things Majestic exists to build.

Sovereignty is worth paying for when it buys something. It stopped buying enough.

So we made a deliberate decision: stop running a chain, start building on one. Move to a Layer 2 that inherits security from a large, established base layer, and redirect everything we were spending on infrastructure into applications.

What a ZK rollup actually is

A rollup executes transactions off the base chain, then posts a compressed record back to it. Users transact on the rollup — quickly and cheaply — while the base chain provides the final guarantee that those transactions were valid.

The zero-knowledge part is where the guarantee comes from. Rather than asking the base chain to re-execute everything, the rollup produces a cryptographic proof that the batch of transactions followed the rules. The base chain verifies the proof. Verifying is dramatically cheaper than re-executing, which is what makes the economics work.

The practical consequence: you are not trusting Majestic to have processed your transaction honestly. You are trusting mathematics that anyone can check. If our sequencer tried to include an invalid transaction, no valid proof could be produced for it.

What this changes in practice

Built on Polygon CDK

Majestic's Layer 2 is built using the Polygon Chain Development Kit — a framework for launching ZK-powered chains that settle to Ethereum.

We chose it for unglamorous reasons. The proving system is production-grade rather than experimental. It is EVM-compatible, so ordinary Ethereum tooling works and developers do not need to learn a proprietary environment. And it settles to Ethereum, which has the deepest security budget and the widest institutional acceptance of any smart contract platform.

For a project whose credibility depends on people trusting records — of ownership, of identity, of value — that last point matters more than raw throughput.

The migration

Moving between chains is not a software upgrade. Balances on the original chain do not automatically exist on the new one; they have to be carried across deliberately, and every holder has to be accounted for.

Our approach is a verified migration:

The verification step exists to protect holders. Automatic distribution to addresses harvested from an old chain state creates opportunities for error and for abuse. Requiring an affirmative verification means each transfer is tied to someone who has demonstrated control of their wallet.

Testing before release

The Layer 2 has been under sustained testing in a controlled sandbox environment. That was a deliberate choice rather than a delay. The original chain accumulated issues over its life, and shipping a new network carrying the same problems would have wasted the migration entirely.

Sandbox testing is where those issues get found — on infrastructure where a failure costs engineering time rather than someone's holdings.

Detailed instructions and platform access will be published on this site as the launch date approaches.

Majestic will never ask for your seed phrase or private keys. No member of our team will request them by email, direct message, or telephone. Migration announcements attract impersonators, and this is the one instruction that protects you from all of them.
